Practising cryptogamy: an alliance with mystery
M.O.S.S.S. – performance workshop, an exploratory walk to learn about mosses. Through an exploratory walk of the environment, visiting various stops, we bring mosses to life. Through sensory explorations using distributed tools, journeys through time, individual reflections and group discussions, all in connection with the location and the mosses, we explore ways of coping with instability.

M.O.S.S.S. (Moving Observations on Surviving Soft Skills) is made up of Mélanie Ganino and Sarah Drapeau. By creating hybrid forms of workshop-performances where the boundaries between shared experience, scientific knowledge and fiction become intertwined, M.O.S.S.S. explores and experiments, taking you into a space of encounter and co-learning with humans and non-humans, combining exploratory walks, somatic practices, sensory experiences and individual and collective questioning.

Village after village, the glass peddlers made their way along the forest paths. Covered in glass objects like a suit of armour, their bodies became a display. During their travels, they served as the link between the villages, peddling goods, news and little stories. Drawing on the history of these peddlers and my own personal experience of the Vosges region, I have crafted a fictional tale. The human figure gradually fades away as he sets off on his walk and delves deeper into the woods: the creature comes to life. His movements are laborious, and his glass armour forces him to measure his steps.

A graduate of the Rennes School of Fine Arts and CERFAV in glass design, Mathis Esnault has developed an artistic practice centred on the local landscape and mystical creatures. Drawing on walks and encounters with the natural world, he weaves together memories, anecdotes and fictional tales to bring to life fragments of landscapes and the creatures that inhabit them. His work explores various media, combining glassblowing, sculpture, writing and performance to create objects and narratives in which living things gradually become the protagonists of her stories.

"La Forêt Miroir" (The Mirror Forest) is an immersive sound installation, akin to a ‘sound nap’. It was created following several sessions of collecting sound elements and personal accounts throughout the woods. These anecdotes were interwoven to create a fictional forest, which was then translated into music. Inspired by Bedrich Smetana’s The Mauldau, Mort Garson’s electronic music, Björk’s pop and experimental poetry, and Darkside’s progressive rock, whilst flirting with dungeon synth influences; this hybrid creation is conceived as a journey through the forest where different atmospheres intersect and evolve.

An artist and musician who studied at both the CCR in Reims and the ESAD in Reims, Léo Sallez adopts a collaborative approach that involves the audience in his exploration of ecosystems and inter-species connections. His artistic practice focuses on sound art through field recording, computer-assisted music, green music and instrumental performance to create musical compositions and sound pieces. He is also developing a project in sensory cartography, through which he explores a cartographic language to document sound experiences in the forest.

Come and write down your eco-friendly ‘escape’ idea on a piece of biodegradable paper. Slip it into a balloon filled with soil and seeds. After a group countdown, pop the balloon to release the messages and seeds.

A Roman artist and performer, Chiara Ferlito explores the female body, gestural painting and the relationship between space, music and presence. She studied physical theatre in Strasbourg at INLAND and theatre at the Padiglione Ludwig Academy, whilst pursuing a Master’s degree in Art History. The winner of several awards, including the MAPP in Montreal, she has developed Racont’art, a project where narrative, pictorial gesture and audience participation come together. Through her performances, she seeks to reveal the uniqueness of each body and to create sensory and shared experiences.
